A data centre the height of seven double decker buses could tower over Sandy Lane and Tylers Way if planning permission is granted on the old Mercure Hotel site.
Ark Data Centres propose to build four 30 metre high data centre blocks and ancillary buildings on the site which is partly previously developed land and woodland.
Whilst a data centre will generate significantly less traffic that the consent given in 2023 for a 30,000 sq metre warehousing and logistics, Hertsmere planning officers have significant concerns over the heritage impact of such tall buildings.
It is believed that not only will the buildings be visible from Hilfield Castle, green belt and listed building locations in Little Bushey, but also Bushey Village conservation area.
Whilst the developers say 235 jobs would be created, a local IT consultant believes many of them will be remote.
The applicants community engagement consultants have leafleted nearby properties and have arranged a consultation for Tuesday 4 November, 1530-1930 at the Hartspring Lane Community Centre, 336 Park Avenue WD23 2BJ. Further information can be found at formermercurehotel.co.uk.
